Dr. Claudio DeLorenzi - MD, FRCS

Dr. DeLorenzi is a fully qualified Plastic Surgeon, born in Toronto, and completely trained in Canada. He is internationally renowned for his cosmetic surgery practise, which incorporates a special interest in high technology solutions in order to ensure better, safer and more efficient procedures. He is active in research and development in the cosmetic surgery industry and remains up-to-date on the latest information regarding cosmetic surgery as he spends about a fifth of his time continuing his medical education and training, editing articles for professional journals, writing articles and books, and attending professional conferences.

Dr. DeLorenzi is a caring surgeon, husband and father. His practice philosophy is “to treat every patient as if they were a family member”, with quality and safety championed as his paramount objectives. Dr. DeLorenzi is fully committed to providing the best quality in service and his results speak for themselves. His grateful patients have sent in hundreds of thank you notes and cards which he loves reading. Although Dr. DeLorenzi is capable of practising anywhere in the world, he loves Canada. Despite lucrative offers to move elsewhere, Dr. DeLorenzi is firm on never leaving the country he calls home. While he loves the great outdoors, he hates the traffic jams associated with big city living. Accordingly, KW has been and remains a wonderful place to raise a family and enjoy a peaceful, hobby-filled, contemplative life.

    2006 Present Editorial Review Staff, Aesthetic Surgery Journal (Official Publication of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery). Dr. DeLorenzi is an editor for articles relating to Breast Surgery, Laser Surgery, Dermal Fillers, and Eyelid Surgery.

    2007-2009 National Board of Medical Examiners, Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation Representative. This Committee creates the items used on the annual examinations for the National Boards.

    2007-2010 Ethics Committee: American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).This Committee reviews complaints about the ethical behaviour of surgeons.

  • The Cosmetic Surgery Industry

    Due to his unique background and wide experience and interests, Dr. DeLorenzi is often sought after by numerous companies for his opinions on different technologies. Dr. DeLorenzi has, at various times, acted as a Professional Product Consultant, Clinical Investigator, Clinical Trainer/Speaker’s Bureau and Device Testing Consultant for large corporations involved in the Aesthetic Medicine field, including: Q-Med (manufacturer of Restylane® products), Mentor (manufacturer of breast implants), Allergan (Juvederm® and Botox®) and many other companies. He has also been sought out as a private advisor for various Wall Street investment firms, interested in the inside scoop of what really works, what has the potential of working and what definitely does not work.

  • Primarily, Dr. DeLorenzi is known for his caring and professional touch, while helping people deal with a wide range of clinical problems. He has operated on thousands of patients at his private surgical facility in the KW area for over 20 years, assisting patients overcome issues ranging from simple sun damage, to the challenging problems resulting from pregnancy and breast feeding. He is admired as a caring person, who tries to understand each person as an individual. Dr. Dee, as he is often called, can really talk to people and empathize, as evidenced by the hundreds of ‘thank you’ letters and cards he has received from grateful postoperative patients.

    Dr. DeLorenzi is an internationally renowned speaker and has been an invited lecturer at numerous scientific educational symposia all over the globe, including: the USA, Canada, China, Japan, Thailand, Korea, Vietnam, Chile, Brazil, France, Italy, Germany and many other countries.

    His main surgical interests include laser techniques, fat grafting technologies, correction of facial aging (particularly eyelids and brow areas), breast augmentation, liposuction and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). His expertise extends to the field of nonsurgical procedures of dermal fillers and neuromodulators.

    Over the years, he has shared his knowledge and experience of various cosmetic surgery techniques freely with other surgeons; presenting hundreds of lectures and seminars at numerous plastic surgery seminars as well as (co)authoring several scientific publications. Additionally, he has helped train other surgeons and undergraduates.

    Dr. DeLorenzi is frequently called upon by the media in Canada and the USA because of his knowledge, common-sense approach and dedication to both his patients and the profession. Reporters know they can get an honest no-nonsense opinion based on his extensive experience.

  • Professional Experience & Committee Participation

    Dr. DeLorenzi has participated in organized Plastic Surgery Societies for many years, acting on various committees including the National Board of Medical Examiners (USA) and the In-Service Examination Committee which sets the questions for the annual post-graduate In-Service Examination for Plastic Surgeons in the USA. He has also held various responsibilities including: the Program Committee, Ethics Committee and the Public Education Committee for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (USA) and the Ethics Committee and Judicial Committee for the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Dr. DeLorenzi further assists the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, investigating physicians’ clinical practices within cosmetic surgery.

    Prior to opening his own cosmetic surgical facility, Dr. DeLorenzi was previously employed as the Surgeon in Chief in the Division of Surgery at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener. During this time he also regularly took on several patients at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital. He is currently the Medical Director of The DeLorenzi Clinic, a private and fully accredited facility, as well as Medical Director of the Silhouette Cosmetic Laser Clinic.

    Dr. DeLorenzi founded the successful Canadian Laser Aesthetic Surgery Society based on his interest in the field of cosmetic laser surgery, and is recognized as a Canadian authority on the subject of laser skin surgery and resurfacing. Dr. DeLorenzi is the past president of both the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the Canadian Laser Aesthetic Surgery Society, where he still currently sits on the executive. He was the first plastic surgeon in Canada to introduce the Ultra Pulse CO2 laser into his private practice in the early 1990’s.

    Dr. DeLorenzi is an active member of: The Canadian Laser Aesthetic Surgery Society, The Canadian Society for Aesthetic Surgery, The International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

    He is accredited with a Certificate of Advanced Education in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and has received numerous certificates and awards for his work. Dr. DeLorenzi is also an editor for the premier Aesthetic Surgery Journal, where he reviews articles regarding breast augmentation, dermal fillers and laser resurfacing.

  • Professional Experience & Committee Participation

    Dr. Claudio DeLorenzi started his training in Engineering Science at the University of Toronto, and then completed his Medical Degree and Post Graduate Training in Plastic Surgery at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. After obtaining his Plastic Surgery degree, he continued studies in Microsurgery receiving his fellowship in Plastic Surgery in 1988. Dr. DeLorenzi specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face, breasts and abdomen at his private, elegant, fully accredited surgical facility in Kitchener, Ontario.

  • Practice Philosophy

    Dr. DeLorenzi believes strongly in the art of communication, where the goal is to “understand problems from the patient’s point of view”. He listens intently, gathers information and based on a given patient’s needs offers customized solutions. He is known for his honesty – always providing patients with the best options for them, rather than catering to his own interests – even if it means losing potential business. The patient always comes first. His goal is to provide the best, safest and least expensive options for his patients, with the end aim of always ending up with happy and satisfied users of his services. Quality of care, too, is extremely high. Dr. DeLorenzi’s Personal Golden Rules are: He must like the patient, the Patient must like him, and the Patient must have a problem that Dr. DeLorenzi thinks he can solve. As with any other care physician’s experience, a few patients from time-to-time will have unrealistic expectations, disagreeable demeanours and are never satisfied, even with the best of care. “I sometimes treat people like this, but usually end up regretting it,” says Dr. DeLorenzi. “Even though I am a perfectionist, I can’t live up to their expectations and I doubt anyone ever could.”

    After treating 20,000 patients, there is little he has not seen. Accordingly, Dr. DeLorenzi is quick at figuring out exactly what a given patient’s needs are, and whether or not he can realistically help them. The majority of the time, both Doctor and patient are happy; that is his goal. Although he has received countless lucrative offers to practice in the USA, Dr. DeLorenzi loves Canada and the KW area. “I’ll never leave home,” he says. “I have been very happy here, and there is nothing that a large city can offer me except crime, more stress and 3 hour traffic jams. No thanks! I have been able to do everything I wanted to do from right here at home.”
